WEEK 6 | THE GRAND FINALE
One Room Challenge | Week 2
Okay this week was where I got all of my bases covered. I repainted the vanity…black. Oh I thought about painting the walls black, like so many of you mentioned in the comments. A black bath is so dramatic. BUT in this particular bath I didn’t have the chops. First of all it’s already so dark in here and second? I don’t feel like getting ready in a cave. It’s one thing if it’s a guest bath or a half bath, etc. But this is where biz gets done in the morning. All black in here would just not have worked. Sooo, I did the next best thing: white walls and black cabinetry, paired with our lovely and original cultured marble countertops and sink 😉
I went with Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black in Semi Gloss, a true black, in their Emerald line. Very happy with the way it turned out. Huge thanks to Sherwin Williams for being one of the One Room Challenge’s lovely sponsors and giving me the paint to get this done.

Next we tackled a bunch of little details, which, in the end add up to some major change:
We updated the outlet and switch plates with still had their original facings from 1962. And actually we used some outlet faces that we found in a box in the garage, so they were FREE! Just waiting for someone to install them, brilliant.
I updated this soap dispenser from having a polished nickel finish (along with some tarnishing), to a smooth brushed brass/gold. It looks so nice and clean again. I used my go-to gold spray paint that I already had a stash of in the garage. Easy update.
And I also did the cabinetry pulls. Even though they had a brass finish already, the bright sheen of the polished knobs didn’t quite vibe with my plan.
Oh and one more thing? I updated the brass pulls on the vanity. Yep, the old ones were brass too, but they just were never quite right to me. I’m MUCH happier with the new ones. I also moved the position of the handles a bit higher on the drawer fronts. Voila!

What do you think? A good move, right? I definitely think so. Much more sleek and understated AND modern.
So my expenditure for this week? Not too bad!
paint c/o sherwin williams | $0
New cabinet pulls | $13.50
new faceplates for outlets | $0
gold spray paint | $0
Next week? I’ll be hanging the new mirror that I just received a few days ago. EXCITED! I’ve been drooling over that mirror for awhile. In fact I based my old, old blog header off of it. Pretty funny, huh? Kind of a full circle 😉

The color theme will be black and white (what else?) with brass. I love a touch of vintage which helps add uniqueness to any space. And don’t forget a graphic and contrasty pattern to make a statement. I’ll also be adding in a gallery wall; a makeover wouldn’t be a makeover without a gallery wall, now would it? I seriously can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Now go check out all the other One Room Challenge talents and see what they’re up to. It definitely makes for some good hump day reading, don’t you think?

One Room Challenge | Introduction
Guess what? The next One Room Challenge is coming up and who’s going to be a part of it? That’s right, this girl right here. If you haven’t heard of the ORC before, you’re missing out. Linda from Calling It Home created the One Room Challenge a couple of years ago and I always make sure to follow along. Twenty bloggers have signed up to completely makeover one room over a six week period and we’ll be posting our progress on a weekly basis.
The fun commences next week, so stay tuned. I’ll be working on a room that I’ve shown you before, but has never felt right to me. Sorry to leave you hanging, but you’ll see which room it is next week!
In the meantime feel free to check out all of the other One Room Challenge participants:
And if you’d like to join the party? There’s a healthy link-up happening, so come and join the fun with us!
