My Home | The Downstairs Bathroom

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Delta Brand. The opinions and text are all mine.

An easy, quick and cheap way to make a huge impact in updating a dark outdated bathroom | copycatchic home tour downstairs bath luxe living for less

So let’s take a little trip downstairs shall we? I really haven’t showed you guys much of the downstairs yet, I know. It’s similar to the bowels of the ship, if you catch my drift. The laundry room is down there, as well as a man cave and play room area. As you can imagine, it’s pretty attractive. That dog will have its day, don’t worry. But for today, let me show you our downstairs bathroom.

It’s about twice the size of the upstairs bathroom and gets probably a third of the use. I think the reason for that was that it really used to remind me of a dungeon. It’s basement level, so there’s already not a huge amount of light, but combined with the super dark stained concrete floor AND the green and burgundy walls? Well it wasn’t really a winning combo, check out the before pictures at the bottom of the post.

Now, let me refresh your memory a bit…remember when I took that trip to Chicago with Delta Faucet? I came up with such a fun bathroom design! Well, I decided to start with that design and use it as a jumping off point. A few tweaks here and there and I came up with the perfect refresh plan for our dungeon/bathroom.

First things first, we painted the whole space my favorite warm white, which is a nice warm white. It really lightened up the space. It’s almost unbelievable what a fresh coat of paint can do. For this step, we kept all the bones the same: floor, sink, tile, etc. Downstairs bath ver 2.0 will be a different story, but that’ll be for a different day 😉 After the paint gave me the blank slate I was looking for, it was time to accessorize and fixturize. Okay, okay, fixturize is not a real word, but it’s kind of fun all the same, right?

Since the pedestal sink was pretty traditional in nature, I figured I’d better not go too crazy or modern with textures or patterns. The Delta’s Cassidyâ„¢ faucet in Champagne Bronzeâ„¢ was just the ticket! Especially since most of the other fixtures in the bathroom are a similar warm tone. Even the old faucet was a garish shade of brass. Speaking of the old faucet, can you tell from the before pictures how bright that finish was? Yikes. It really had to go! The Cassidy’s sleek lines and traditional styling fit so much better in here. Not to mention the champagne bronze finish is simply gorgeous, warm and luxe. It’s really the perfect hue. The shape of the Cassidy reads so traditional at first glance, doesn’t it? But when you take a closer look, you see that the handles have a modern shape. Also, the sweep of the faucet is so unique and unexpected from up close. It’s such a classic design.

Next up, I took a couple of items that I plan to be stocking in my (soon to be opened) store: the rug and hand towel. I love the organic and handmade pattern on both of these pieces, and the muted tones keep it updated. The old chair has been passed down in my family forever, I’m so glad I found a good place for it! The soap dispenser was originally nickel and I just spray painted it gold. The basket makes a much prettier waste bin than the plastic one I had in there before. The new sconce, towel ring and mirror are the perfect combination of vintage and contemporary. You can also find brass faucet fittings here!

* Coming soon to the copycatchic shop! Stay tuned.

As you can see, the bathroom is much more inviting now. The paint really brightened the room up and, of course, the new fixtures make it shine. Not bad for a quick transition, don’t you think? Now to tackle the tile in here….

Looks great! Did you paint the plumbing fixtures that go from the sink to the wall or buy new gold ones? That’s what really made the room stand out to me.

I would love to know where you found the soap dispenser with the brass top. It looks like the one from Target only comes with a silver top.
