Every holiday season we like to take family photos. I use those photos for ornaments, calendars, cards, books, etc. They make perfect gifts for the family. My parents are super hard to shop for, because they, (like most of us) are trying to pare down. A photo book makes a perfect keepsake and doesn’t take up much room the bookshelf.
This year I decided to try out Blurb for the first time for our photo book. They have a new Layflat paper option for their photo books which means you can have a single photo span across both pages, with no gap in the middle. It makes it easier to see and flip through. Love that idea! We had so many great horizontal shots to use, so this was the perfect way to take advantage!
The designing process was super easy. I downloaded Blurb’s designing software Bookwright and I was off. I decided to keep it simple and let the pictures speak for themselves, so I used layouts with no text and just images. Bookwright made it easy to select different photo layouts with different sizes and number of images on a page. I had my Layflat book designed in an half an hour. After your finish your design you can upload it onto the Blurb site and order it.
When it arrived I was really impressed with the picture quality. I tend to notice when printed colors are not accurate and Blurb did a great job on that front! Also the paper-weight was thick and super professional feeling. I tend to like matte finish, but the Layflat paper in this book had a very slight sheen to them and I actually found that I liked that better! I also loved seeing our special family moments spread corner-to-corner across two pages.
We made two books: one for my parents and one for the Mr.’s parents. Done and done! Ever since this photo book came about, we’ve been such a fan of getting books printed out every year. The Layflat book format by Blurb did a great job of preserving our family memories for years to come. Do you use photo books to document special occasions? Or do you like keeping them digital? I find that I miss flipping through photo albums, so these are the perfect replacement! If you’re looking for more inspiration, you can even check out Blurb’s Holiday Gift Guide.
