After getting the kid’s room set for awhile, the living room started calling my name. It’s the first big room you see when entering our home so it definitely needs to make an impact. Also with the great character of the room, it really called for something just as dramatic.
Historically I’ve always used the living room as an office, preferring to use a laptop rather than a desktop. So I’d say this room represents me the most of any in the house. I wanted to fill only with things I love and that give me pleasure since I spend most of my time in this space.
Next step? Time to hit pinterest for some inspiration! Here are some 0f my favorite living room designs.
I wanted to mix up my favorite elements of each and create a room that’s uniquely me 🙂 So I came up with a design that combine some of my old favorite pieces and some fun new ones. Here’s my design board for the space so far.

Loooong flowy sheers. These are KEY to my sanity during the day. Why? Privacy. We have a giant huge picture window overlooking the street. It’s nice to know that I can work in my PJs all day long and not feel like all the neighbors are staring 😉

This rug is one of the first things I bought specifically for this room. I waited until RugsUSA had a major sale so we got it for a steal. We LOVE it. It’s soft and versatile. I have the ivory color and the pattern is a dark gray.
And here’s a picture of the room before we moved in. Love the tall ceilings, the beams, the built-ins…such a great blank canvas to work with!

Do you notice that the rug sheds? I’m looking to replace our living room rug (the BellO Shag Rug from West Elm) because it literally sheds like we have a large, hairy dog. (We have no animals.) I really want something that doesn’t require daily vacuuming and I notice there are some reviews that mention shedding. I’m just curious about your experience. Thanks!
PS The room looks great!

Thanks Megan! We haven’t had any issues with shedding at all actually. We also have a roomba that vacuums daily though…so mabye that’s why haven’t noticed anything? Not sure, but we love the rug.
