Copy Cat DIY: Lindsay Adelman Brass Chandelier

Today is a really special Friday because I have my first DIY project for you. And it is MAJOR.

Has anyone else been coveting Lindsay Adelman’s work?

via

If not, I can tell you it’s only a matter of time. Her lighting fixtures are insanely good, and insanely expensive, which is why she very graciously gives you guidelines on how to make your own. That said, there’s no step-by-step DIY, and the brief instructions she provides are for a plug-in version rather than a hard-wired version. So when I built my own chandelier, I went ahead and created an entire DIY to help you make one too!

You can find all three parts over on my blog, Lindsey Does, or just click below:

Part ONE
Part TWO
Part THREE

I will say that while this is an involved project, it’s completely doable and there is no need to be scared of this one. You’ll need a helper (it’s not your fault you only have two hands) but everything else you probably already know how to do.

If you have any questions about the project, please post them on the corresponding blog post on Lindsey Does so that I get a comment notification and can respond.

Good luck!!

TLC’s $25,000 Home Makeover

Hey Peeps, if you’re in LA, love DIY and you & your significant other are looking to score $25,000 for a home makeover check out the press release I just got from TLC!
The TLC network is looking for fun, outgoing couples who live together in the Los Angeles area for their new home makeover show “Our House.”

The concept: We give you $25,000 and three weeks to do whatever you want to your home’s interior. You can re-floor, re-furnish, break down walls, install extreme fixtures and make it your dream house! And you have to do it all YOURSELF! (with a little help from your friends and the occasional plumber).

We’re looking for married couples, dating couples, new home owners, long-time residents, couples who are strapped for cash and couples who just need a change. Whatever your story — as long as you own your house and want TLC to pay you to re-invent it — we want to hear from you!

Please send an email to OurHouseCasting@gmail.com with both of your names and ages, a phone number, your house’s location, photos of you both and a brief explanation of why you want to makeover your home.

Fresh Coat Friday!

In the tradition of one of my favorite blogs, Life in the Fun Lane, I decided to give you folks a little preview of my new “office” 🙂
Since the old office will now be transitioning to the nursery, I needed to find another place in the house to work the Copy Cat Chic magic 😉 I found this cheap desk for $75 at a local secondhand shop. I loved the traditional lines and the brass hardware & brackets give it personality. I decided a good coat of paint it would be perfect for my new office nook.
I also used a new tool to do the painting – Since I’m not so good at DIY, I figured I needed all the help I could get. I was given this paint sprayer from Home Right, the Pro 8.0 Extra Heavy-Duty Paint Sprayer to review, so I figured I’d put it to good use. Can I just tell you it’s great? Compact and light and totally easy to use and it comes in it’s own little container to stow away. Plus it has nice, even coverage. I already have plans to do a nightstand and high-chair next!

The desk before…

And the desk after!

| Fabulous DIY Headboards |

I’m going to call attention to a couple of my favorite blogger DIY projects. These ladies both made their own gorgeous headboards inspired by designer beds for a substantial savings! What’s not to love? I’m seriously considering making myself a new headboard, even though the one I have is less than a year old….lol.

First up, we have Freckles Chic with her awesome linen headboard with nailhead trim. Cost of making this headboard? Only $73!

Looks pretty similar to West Elm’s Nailhead Upholstered Headboard…King size = $449.

Next, Holly over at Life in the Fun Lane made a glamorous white headboard (directions here)in keeping with her unique clean cottage chic style. Just love it!

This is an easy and cheap way to get a headboard that looks like Williams Sonoma Home’s Fairfax Bed with out the pocket emptying cost!
