Happy Mother’s Day

I hope all of you Mom’s out there are having an amazing day!

I thought I’d list a few of my favorite wish list items. These are all things that I’d love to have but wouldn’t necessarily buy myself. AND a little warning, some of the items are a little splurgy 😉

ONE | I’ve heard nothing but great things about these Clarisonic skin brushes.
TWO | Scotch Naturals Nail Polish is 100% free of toxins and solvents
THREE | BareMinerals just came out with this foundation. Got it a few days ago and love it!
FOUR | This is supposed to be the end-all be-all of hair dryers
FIVE | I’m really digging the mint right now
SIX | The latest trend, fugly but comfy!
SEVEN | A candle that smells like a library. A good smell 😉
EIGHT | You can transport the whole family in this thing!
NINE | I’m loving gorgeous, lush white roses lately.

I use pretty much any excuse to get fresh flowers. Nothing beats fresh blooms in the house, except for when they’re delivered right to your door. I had a dozen of these delivered just in time for Mother’s Day. I ordered them from the The Bouqs. They are super fresh and the price is always consistent. Also, you get what you pay for. No substitutions or fillers, just all gorgeous blooms straight-up simple.

Beauty Talk Part 2

One popular post from 2013 was the post on my eco-friendly beauty routine, believe it or not. Funny considering that this is a home design blog, right? I’ve received a bunch of questions on everything from the products I posted about, as well recommendations for more. so I figured I’d follow up with beauty talk part 2.

1. Radical Resurfacing Lotion
This lotion is supposed to help even out skin tone and reduce hyper-pigmentation. I’ve been using it about a month and a half along with the vitamin C below. The scent is not my fave, but the lotion seems to work, so that’s what matters, right? It received a 2 on EWG’s Skin Deep database, so pretty safe, I’d say.

2. Crystal Deodorant
This is an all natural mineral deodorant. I’ve used it for about 6 years now and it’s great. I prefer the roll on, over the stick, but they both work equally well. I apply it right after a shower. One thing to note, you have to apply it before you sweat. It won’t help you if you’re already perspiring.

3. Vitamin C Serum
When I was pregnant I had a facial at a eco and prenatal-friendly spa. They used a vitamin C serum to help reduce pigmentation/spots from the sun (and pregnancy). Vitamin C is safe during pregnancy and this one is organic and all natural. So I now alternate using this and the resurfacing lotion (above) underneath my moisturizing lotion. I haven’t decided which one I like better.

4. Pineapple and Papaya Enzyme Mask
During my facial they also used a papaya enzyme mask to help with exfoliation. I love this one. I keep it in the shower and throw it on first and wait until the end to scrub it off with a damp washcloth. My skin is super soft afterwards. I try to use it twice a week.

5. Argan Oil Lotion
I’m loving this lotion right now. I use it on my legs after I take a shower. For some reason my legs get super dry and if I don’t use a good lotion, my skin itches. This takes the itch away. Thank you very much.

6. Zoya Nail Polish
This is the only nail polish I use. It’s toxin free, which is so important because nail polish is one of the most chemical-ridden thing you can put on your body. And your nail beds absorb it right in. Yuck. I even bring it with me to the nail salon, they think it goes on great too. There are many, many colors and if you sign-up for emails on their website, they offer great deals and free products. Their nail polish remover is fab too!

Beauty Talk

Stay tuned for your regularly scheduled programs. We’re taking a little detour for the moment. I wanted to share my au naturale beauty routine. I know most of you are aware, that I’m very into organic and healthy-living. I’ve found a few good products that are not only eco-friendly, but also get the job done.

My list almost sounds like a grocery store shopping list, doesn’t it?

1. Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Nourishing Conditioner
Now, Kiehl’s doesn’t always have the best reputation on the EWG Cosmetic Database, I know, but I really love this conditioner. It’s the perfect balance of moisturizing without being too heavy. I have fine, curly hair and lots of it and it tends to dry out easily. But since it’s fine, I can’t use anything too heavy. This conditioner is great and it has a really nice, very subtle scent.

2. Sierra Sage Herbs Aloe-E Skin Repair Salve
This is amazing stuff, I use it on my eyes in the morning and at night. It’s the perfect natural solution for bags, dark circles, puffiness, you name it! And if I’m feeling particularly dry, I load it on the rest of my face as well.

3. Pangea Organics Facial Cream – Nigerian Ginger, Sweet Lavender & Thyme
I love this moisturizer, great rating on the cosmetic database and it’s nice and light. I usually like to use something with SPF, but I’ve recently heard that that’s probably not the best option for your skin. So I opt for a great non-nano zinc sunblock (see #6).

4. Kiss My Face Naked Pure Olive Oil Bar Soap
My, oh my, do I love this soap! It’s pure olive oil. I use it on my face, it makes a great make-up remover and I use it as a body wash in the shower. Even though it’s made of olive oil it doesn’t feel oily or leave an oily residue. It’s the perfect moisturizing cleanser. It doesn’t have much of a scent to it though, so if you really miss that, I’d go with the lavender olive oil bar.

5. JASON Natural Biotin Shampoo, Ginseng & Chamomile
This shampoo has a great rating on the cosmetic database and although I like it, I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite shampoo ever. I haven’t found the perfect shampoo yet, but this one is definitely good! I think it’s the scent I’m not that fond of. I like to switch shampoos regularly to avoid build-up anyways.
6. ThinkBaby Sunscreen SPF 50+
I’ve tried pretty much the whole gamut when it comes to skin and eco-friendly sunscreens. This one is my fave. It has a nice scent and it’s spreads on just a tad easier than my 2nd favorite, California Baby Sunscreen. I don’t use it everyday, only when I’m going to be in the sun longer than a half an hour, but it’s definitely my go to sunblock for me and Arden as well.

7. Trader Joe’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
I don’t usually buy this on Amazon (and who knew that Amazon even sells TJ’s products?!). I get it in the store and it’s in with the cooking oils. It’s pure coconut oil and it’s the perfect skin moisturizer for me and Arden too. It’s a little unwieldy since it’s solid at room temperature, but it’s worth the hassle. I love the very subtle coconut scent and it makes my skin so nice and soft and happy 😉 BTW – for those of you who will inevitable ask, I’m not a fan of TJ’s Coconut Body Butter. Too many additives and scents for me in particular, but I know a lot of people are fans.
