Halloween

Our Home | A Not Too Spooky Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday. It’s just so fun, what other holiday can you say that about? πŸ˜‰ This will be the first Halloween at our new home and I’ve been told that our block only gets around a dozen  or so trick-or-treaters. Oh well, no reason to NOT decorate, right? Have to make the ole’ abode hospitable to those 12 kiddos!

Actually this year we are hosting a small toddler Halloween party! Nothing too big, around 30ish people and less than 10 toddlers. Can you imagine MORE than 10 toddlers running around in your home? Me neither πŸ˜‰

*You can see teasers for the Halloween party decor on my Instagram account*

So I didn’t want to go too scary with the decor. Instead of hanging a bunch of spooky spider webs and carving scary pumpkins, I thought this was a better way to go:
A cute smiling black cat and a cheery Halloween Door Mat, oh and a good sweep too πŸ˜‰

I bought 3 different sized pumpkins and a bunch of mini pumpkins all at Lowes this year. When it came time to decorate them, I got my inspiration from this great pic on Pinterest. I used black and white spray paint from Lowes and chalk. Easy, peasy although not quite as perfect as the inspiration pic πŸ˜‰ And while I was at it, I gave my tired iron planters a quick spray as well! It made a huge difference. Old Mr. Crow and some of the cheesecloth from last year made an appearance as well.

So overall, not too scary for the little ones, right? What did you guys do this year? Any fun and unique themes?
This post was brought to you by the Lowe’s Creative Ideas Network, which I’m so happy to be a part of along with a few other creative bloggers, you can check out all of our fun projects on the Lowe’s Creative Ideas Blog.

Halloween Time | Beware of the Black Widows

**This giveaway has ended!**
Congratulations to Jessica Warfield!

I
can’t believe there’s only one week left until Halloween! How did that
happen? This weekend I figured I’d better get into gear and
decorate the house!
On
Sunday I headed over to Lowe’s to pick up some fun Halloween
decorations, but I didn’t buy the usual “Halloween” decor items πŸ˜‰ I’m a
member of Lowe’s Creative Ideas Creators & Influencers team (wow, that’s a mouthful), so I decided to get a little more DIYish with it.
If you’ve never checked out the Lowe’s Creative Ideas website
it’s chock-full of easy DIY projects, which are right down my alley. I
so don’t have the patience for DIY, but these were easy-peasy
AND way more cost effective. So naturally I was down for the challenge.
Here’s my modest stoop πŸ™‚ I went with a spider infestation theme.
A picture of Mr. Crow standing guard by my homemade black widow infestation warning sign (somewhat inspired by the fabulous Brooklyn Limestone). Here’s a copy of the sign as requested!
 Newly hatched spiders…
Our spider family of pumpkins. I created the black painted pumpkin by following the instructions from this project. So easy! And I actually used black spray paint instead of the one suggested. The other two I just used a black sharpie!

My inspiration for the creepy spiderweb curtains were from this project from the Lowe’s Creative Ideas website. For only $2 per panel (and a teensy bit of effort) it was WAY more reasonably priced than getting the same exact thing from a Halloween store for $7 a panel.
The Momma black widow herself (she drops down when there is any movement or sound!).
I was also going to do this spiderweb project on the right side of the stoop, but I figured it might not stand out
that well with the bougainvillaea vines growing there already.

Here’s the overall finished picture! Not too shabby for a days work, wouldn’t you say? πŸ˜‰
Would you guys like to win a $50 gift card to Lowe’s to use on your own DIY projects? Here are the deets!

Have you guys figured out your costumes? I debated making a costume for Arden. These are just too adorable….
