So, big news! We moved! We closed on a house a couple of months ago and we finally moved in. We’re still unpacking and trying to put things away, but we’re slowly getting there. I thought it would be a good idea to take it one room at a time until we’ve worked our way through the entire house. The living room is the first room you see upon entering, so I thought that would be the perfect place to start. Once everything has been stowed away, the fun part begins: time to decorate!
After buying the house, we definitely felt a bit light in the pockets, so I wanted to focus on reusing what we already had, selling items that didn’t work and then purchasing new pieces to make everything cohesive. And I turned to one of my favorite resources to do all of those things: eBay! I was pretty excited to partner with eBay on this post because I haven’t had a chance to work with them before and with them being one of my favorite spots to score a deal? I thought it would be a win-win.
Did you guys know that over 80% of everything sold on eBay is brand new? And “Buy It Now”? eBay isn’t just second-hand auctions anymore, they’ve expanded in a major way. In fact, I make it a point to always do a price comparison on eBay when there’s a particular item I’m looking to buy. It definitely pays off to be diligent researching those prices you guys! They also have daily deals that I try to check often, because you just never know what they’ll be featuring a steep discount on!
Back to our new living room though! We loved the living room in our old house so much, that I wanted to recreate the look in our new home. The new space is smaller, so we definitely had to scale things down a bit. I sold my old rug and bought the same diamond woven rug in a smaller size. We had to find a new coffee table because my old round one took up too much room. I decided to go with this tufted ottoman that can double as a foot rest or more seating when needed. I love when furniture serves multiple purposes. When we’re using it as a coffee table I bought this versatile tray to hold drinks or coffee table books. As of right now we’re keeping the sofa, because I love it so much, I couldn’t bear to part with it. At some point, we’ll transition to something a bit smaller.
I’m still looking for a smaller side table or two and maybe a bigger floor lamp for better lighting, but I like to take my time and find the right pieces. We’ll get there! But for right now? I’m feeling pretty good about this corner of the house! As soon as we have most of the rooms squared away and the moving boxes out of sight, I’ll be sure to post a full tour for you guys!

I jusst had thiss conversation with my business partner…there is nothing like an older home. Congrats.
Wondering if you would comment on the bay area and the sofa. Is it a straight back, not curved? What are the dimentions of the bay?
The room is a winner. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! The sofa is a little too big to fit all the way into the bay window. I think the sofa is 90″. We’ll probably put a console table behind it. Oh and the sofa has straight back!

I love what you have already accomplished! Do you have any idea what your paint color is! Vicki

Thanks so much Vicki! I’m not 100% sure what the color is, but there was an extra can of Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter in the garage…so that might be it!

Ha! I know, we’re hoping to not move for a long time now. We love the trees too! So pretty! 😀

Did you purchase the ivory rug? There’s black, ivory and grey. I think this is the ivory but want to make sure! The room is looking lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Reichel says
Yes it’s the ivory 🙂

Also, would you mind giving a review of the sofa? It’s hard to purchase something like this without seeing it and sitting on it! Behind all the throw pillows is it just the sofa back or are there other cushions? Is this a couch you sink into or can you sit upright with knees over the edge and feet flat on the floor? I appreciate any feedback you can give. Thanks.
Reichel says
I absolutely love the sofa, but it’s definitely not your typical sofa. Behind the throw pillows it’s the hard sofa back. And it’s a loungey type of sofa since it’s so deep. I’d say it’s almost the size of a twin bed. So no, it’s hard to sit and have your feet on the ground unless you’re 6’5″! lol
