It’s been a little while since I’ve posted a living room update over here. The wall you can’t see is actually where my desk used to be. We’ve mixed things up recently and I’m pretty excited about the changes.
I loved having my desk and being able to work in the living room. It’s such a beautiful, airy space, but it got pretty old trying to keep my desk functional AND looking pretty all the time. I figured it was time to relocate it elsewhere. I missed having this corner tied into the rest of the living room.
When I was offered a chance to receive the latest Samsung Frame TV I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to rework this corner. We had only one TV, hidden away in our family room, and I’ve always hesitated adding a TV to the living room. I didn’t want a huge, black screen taking away from the room’s character. The Frame solved that dilemma perfectly – I can have a TV in the room without it looking obvious. In fact, it looks like a piece of art, and was designed in collaboration with designer Yves Béhar to be exactly that. It is the perfect accessory for the space.
When you’re not watching the TV, the Frame switches into Art Mode, which means it’s meant to stay on – all the time. Instead of it being a dark void, you get to choose a piece of art to display. The TV comes with a variety of art built in or you can purchase more to suit any preference. You can even upload your own pictures to completely customize it. Also, in case you’re wondering, the Frame is smart enough to adjust the brightness of the screen in Art Mode. Instead of a backlit screen, the art is dimmed, making it look like a real piece of artwork. SUCH a genius concept right?
Oh, and another way it fits into any space? The Frame has customizable bezels available in While, Beige Oak, and Walnut. I decided to buy the light wood frame to blend in with warmer wood tones surrounding it. And as you can see in the pictures, The Frame hangs flush against the wall, like an actual picture frame – Samsung really thought of every detail.
Even the wiring was reworked. Instead of the usual unsightly and bulky cords, Samsung created the “Invisible Connection.” It’s basically a super thin wire of a cord, barely visible against the wall. In fact as you an see in these pictures it’s really hard to detect. The wires attach to the “One Connect Box,” which we’ve hidden in one of the console tables drawers. In the other drawer? The small and streamlined remote. No more bulky universal remote for us thank you very much. The Frame is also a Smart TV and has all of our apps already installed: Netflix, Amazon, HBO. Done and done.
After hearing all of those traits, I was sold – BUT do you want to know what sold my husband on it? 4K HDR Pro. Not sure what that even means? It means it has four times the pixels of a full HD TV. Oh, and the contrast and color on this TV are insane. It’s in a whole different league than our current TV, which makes everyone all around happy.

That’s amazing!!! Good job Samsung for reaching out to you, because I don’t follow tech news and wouldn’t normally have heard of this, but now that I’ve read your post, I totally want one. This Christmas, my husband and I were discussing how the big sales on tv and tech advances just weren’t appealing enough to make us consider replacing our 8-yr-old model. Once you’ve got a good tv, for most people there’s no reason to get a different one. But changing the *appearance* … that’s just genius.

I know exactly what you mean! I’m surprised it took this long to come out with a beautifully designed TV like this one. I feel like I’ve been waiting years for something like this and I’m so glad Samsung finally made it a reality. It really is a great quality TV too. Sometimes the focus is so much on aesthetics that the functionality suffers, but definitely not in the case. Glad I was able to introduce you to it! And thanks for the great feedback! 🙂

I have that desk in hammerred metal but it needs refinishing. Did you apply the grasscloth like you woudl on a wall or did you have to use different material? It’s stunning!!
Reichel says
Thanks Marsha! I actually bought it with the grasscloth. Here’s a DIY for someone who applied grasscloth: http://www.thechroniclesofhome.com/2014/11/diy-lacquered-grasscloth-coffee-table.html 🙂

Just saw this post and loved the idea until I saw you said that it’s on all the time. Have you noticed a difference in your utility bills? Did Samsung provide you any information on the environmental impact? Is it totally silent when in Art Mode? Sorry for the all the questions! I wish there was a way for it to show art and still be powered off!
