Who’s ready for the the holiday weekend? I am! Our Memorial day weekend will be filled with lots of pool and BBQ-time. Perfect way to celebrate with friends and family. When we moved into our new home a couple of months ago, the backyard needed a looot of work. The bushes were over grown and ground was wet and muddy. Not a fun place to hang out at all. The backyard needs a complete overhaul for sure, but we really wanted a yard we could hang out in this summer.
So not having time to take on a major yard project we set our minds to doing some major trimming and cleaning up. With a ton of overgrown plants, weeds, dead leaves and misc debris gone…there was much more space to work with. Good start.
Next, we decided on our top priorities. Number one? A good BBQ space with a great grill to go with it 😉 And two, a good place to set up a table to sit, eat and serve food. I decided to partner with Ace Hardware because they have an amazing Memorial day special going on: Free Assembly & Local Delivery on grills $399 up. A great incentive to get that backyard cleaned up, am I right? 😉 The Mr chose this gorgeous Weber Grill, which he’d been eyeing for awhile now. And I chose some goodies to help spruce up our BBQ game.
After we cleaned up the yard a bit and moved things around. We had a great spot just waiting for that new grill. After ordering our BBQ at Ace, we just had to sit back and wait. They assembled the grill and brought it over ready to go. Nice touch right? Who wants to spend valuable grill time assembling a BBQ?
Next up I decided to decorate. I had this great table cloth from Bottlecloth that I had been wanting to use for awhile now, so I used that as my inspiration. Black and white are always a great way to make things pop outside, especially against a green backdrop. Then I spotted these rich wood serving pieces from Ace that were the perfect accent. I bought the a few of these wooden plates to display the skewers and this great wooden platter to hold the roasted veggies. I found a gorgeous olive wood spatula at Ace for the veggies too, very similar to this one. We used enamelware plates and disposable wooden forks to eat with. And I set the table with wooden chargers that I already had that, coincidentally, matched the wooden serving pieces I purchased from Ace!
We also get mosquitos around here at dusk time, so I figured it would be a good idea to use a couple of these citronella candles. Who knew that bug repellant candles could look this good? 😉 And last but not least, no backyard setup would be complete without a good set of globe lights! We strung a few sets on the fence and railings and it made it much more festive.
Next step party time 😉 We decided to grill up some skewers and veggies and invite some family over. And to get the party started for you all, you can enter to win a $350 Ace gift Card! Enter using the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of the post.
And just so you can get an idea of what we were working with…here are a few before pics of the yard. Scary, I know…
