Ranch House Redo | Guest Room Update

We’ve been doing some updating in our guest room and I haven’t shown you the progress yet. We were able to update this room using mostly items that we already had around the house. I love updates that are practically free, don’t you?

Last time you guys checked in on the guest room it looked like this:

And when we moved in….

It was about time to tackle those yellow walls, out-dated wallpaper, old curtains and ceiling light. We removed the wallpaper and gave the room a fresh coat of paint. We used Lowe’s no-VOC Valspar paint and primer in one in satin finish and had it color matched to Benjamin Moore’s Gray Cashmere. The closet doors and trim was painted in the same Valspar paint, but used semi-gloss tinted to match Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White.

We took down the old, yellow curtains and updated them with some great thermal panels that help keeps the room warm when it’s cold outside. I couldn’t find the exact ones online, but these are similar. We used the same window hardware that we used in the Master bedroom. The nickel finish really ties in with the rest of the finishes in the room.

We updated the light fixture with this great teardrop chandelier that we used in Arden’s old nursery. And if you can remember, Arden’s nursery had a peacock theme going on. We recreated that for the guest room.  For the bed we used an old peacock headboard that belonged to my husband’s Mom when she was a child.

The bedding is a pin-tuck duvet and a couple of peacock pillows.

We added a peacock canvas to the wall over the bedside table and paired it with this gorgeous bedside lamp from Joy and Revelry.

At the foot of the bed are a  couple of kubu wicker trunks for storage.

And under the window is a vintage, luggage rack that was converted to a table with a piece of glass. My friend gave this table to me probably 10 years ago now? And I’ve always found a place for it in each place I’ve lived in.

The shadow box holds wine corks from special moments to remember them by. The painting is from Italy and was a steal from the Alameda Antique Fair. The brass horse bookend was an Etsy find.

The office nook also got an update with this computer desk. This was one of the few new pieces we bought for the room and it was definitely needed. It keeps everything organized behind closed doors. It also has a huge file drawer which keeps all of our files tucked nicely away.

The keyboard tray slides out, which is key, because the previous console table I was using didn’t give me a place to put my legs when I sat there. Not so comfortable.

Its looking so good! I saw the colorful version of that headboard online [on sale] and was really bummed out that I had no excuse to get it. Besides the fact that I'm supposed to be purging and my husband would kill me, we don't have a guest bed! But man is it gorgeous!!

The teal pillow is from Joss & Main. The dark grey peacock pillow is from DwellStudio and the lighter teal peacock pillow I made from DwellStudio fabric 🙂
