I thought I’d update my baby basics post from back when I was pregnant with Arden. Here’s my updated list for Baby Deux!
We used mostly gDiapers with Arden, I was super happy with them. She never got diaper rash and rarely had blowouts. I think we’ll probably use them later on with Baby Deux, but in the newborn stage we’re going with Seventh Generation diapers or Honest diapers.
We probably won’t need this monitor for at least three months – which is good since it’s pretty pricey. But I think it’s amazing and love how it ties in with your iPhone.
I talked about this heater in a previous post, still haven’t broken down and bought it yet. But once Baby Deux is sleeping in the room with Arden I think I’ll have to.
These little thing-a-ma-bobs help connect our stroller to our carseat. Fabulous. We didn’t need it with Arden since she wasn’t a fan of her carseat, but I’m hoping Baby Deux is different. Cross your fingers!
One word, lattes.
I bought this originally for Arden and her bugaboo cameleon thinking it was a rain umbrella for Mommy when walking in inclement weather. Ha! It showed up and I was shocked at its size. It’s small folks, but it didn’t take me long to use it. And use it I did, all. the. time. It really helped me keep the sun out of Arden’s eyes when went on our walks. The cameleon’s canopy wasn’t super big and this little parasol was so helpful. You can easily position it in almost any position to block the pesky sun from your baby’s eyes. Loved it.
Arden’s going to have so much fun riding on this!
I mentioned above, that we had the cameleon with Arden. And I loved it, don’t get me wrong! But I always wished I had something a bit smaller AND that folded in one piece. We got the Bee a few months ago and it’s heaven. Exactly what I wanted. And believe me, I’ve tried a BUNCH of different strollers. This is it folks.
These are perfect for keeping your diaper bag hanging within easy reach.
This helps your newborn stay snuggly and cozy in the Bee during the winter months.
Arden still uses her’s, so we needed to get Baby Deux his very own. I got his in limited edition American Walnut. I’m in love with the grain detail.
I’ve been drooling over this rocker for years. SO glad I finally have it in. my. home. Yay!
This is Arden’s old carseat. Why fix it if it ain’t broke? đ
(Similar) Love this cozy footmuff and it will keep Baby Deux nice and warm.
I was never very good at using swaddling blankets with Arden. The Mr. always had to do it. We started using these with Arden later on and they are SO easy. And worth it.
We originally bought the Mamaroo for Arden and she HATED it. It didn’t move fast enough. So we returned it and got this super cheesy Fisher Price swing instead. And used the hell out of it. Never looked back!

I'm anxious for a review on the NurseryWorks Empire Rocker…especially comfort. I absolutely love the rocker, but the reviews say it's not comfortable. đ

I'll be sure to give feedback on the rocker once I actually use it for nursing! I saw those reviews, but I've also heard good reviews too. It seems super comfy now, but all we do is read books on it sometimes. I'll be sure to give an honest opinion after Baby arrives!

Great list of fab baby gear. Would you be opposed to letting us know which of these things you actually buy, vs are gifted from family/friends vs get as a perk for blogging about it? I ask because my husband and I don't have family who can afford to gift us a box of Target brand diapers let alone extravagant rocking chairs, cribs…or a house. My husband and I both work, earn very good money but blown away by friends who are in similar situations to ours and yet still have $700 strollers w/$25 holders for their $5 lattes, $300 high chairs, $800 rockers, $500 cribs and act like it's no big thing. I'm sorry if this comes off as attacking but at some point I wish people/bloggers would be real and admit how much they get gifted to them. What would these "lists" of must-haves/favorites look like if people had to actually pay full retail for it all?

I'm not offended at all! I completely understand where you're coming from. The Bugaboo was 2nd hand (off of eBay) as well as most of the accessories for it. The rocker was payment from Hayneedle for posts I created for their website/blog, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it. The high chair was from Hayneedle as well, but Tripp Trapps are readily available on Craigslist for a reasonable price and they are usually in very good condition because of their quality craftsmanship. So I would have gone that route if didn't have my agreement with Hayneedle. The swing was a Craigslist find and the carseat/accessories we already had from our 1st born. And I actually got them off of Craigslist too originally! The heater and baby monitor we still don't have, but I'm saving for them and hope to buy them eventually. We also saved a lot of money on the nursery/shared room by using mostly furniture from Ikea. So you see, I save and buy 2nd hand most of the time in order to splurge on one or two items that are really worth it.

This is obviously a "chic" blog entry. I'm anxiously awaiting the "cheap" version of this list. We spent ~$30,000 over two years getting pregnant (finally by IVF), so we're now broke, and no one is throwing us a baby shower. I love this blog, but this is yet another list of exorbitantly expensive baby items. Seriously, why doesn't this have a "cheap" option? And wow, TWO STOKKE TRIPP TRAPPs? I get it, you're loaded. Good for you. Sorry for the tone, I'm mostly feeling sorry for myself here, since I'm basically choosing between diapers and any kind of cute furnishings. I'll have to go for the diapers and forgo everything else that's not necessary, which is most everything.

It's a combo of both Chic & Cheap. The Bugaboo was 2nd hand as well as most of the accessories. The rocker was payment from Hayneedle for posts I created for their website/blog, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it. The swing was a Craigslist find and the carseat/accessories we already had from our 1st born. So not loaded, I just pick a few things that are worth splurging on. If you notice in the shared room I posted, most of the furniture is from Ikea. The crib was actually from originally from Ikea, but I bought it for $40 off of Craigslist. You can find Tripp Trapps on Craigslist for a super reasonable cost too. Try getting cloth diapers to save money. I went that route too with Arden, even buying used cloth diapers in good condition off of diaperswappers.com. That way you make one investment on diapers and it's not an ongoing expense AND your helping the environment. Good luck!
