Copy Cat Chic Room Redo | Mint Bedroom

Friday, May 2, 2014
Happy Friday! Today’s room is quite possibly the chicest, minty bedroom I’ve ever seen. It strikes a lovely balance between ultra-feminine and streamlined, which are not normally things that lend themselves toward one another. It’s girly without being frou-frou, foregoing all those things I’m not really a fan of (ruffles, bows, tulle, clutter, baby pink, elaborate and ridiculous French furniture, etc.). If I lived at Versailles, this is probably how I would have furnished it.

Color-wise, we also have some good stuff going on. Even though we have this cool minty paint on the walls, it still feels warm and inviting because of the use of natural tones (as opposed to white). We also have some subtle textural differences, which helps pull together a room like this that really doesn’t have a lot happening by way of décor. I am an admitted art hoarder so I would have trouble leaving those walls bare; if you’re like me, I would encourage restraint in a room this tailored—you want to let the rest of the room (and that insane paint color) shine. So if you have room, maybe try a smaller piece like this naturist Audubon print. (That sounds like obvious advice I know, but it’s harder than you think.) I’d also suggest replacing the knobs that come on the nightstand with these brass ring pulls, unless of course you’d rather travel down the DIY path. These hyper-affordable tutorials (12) are not specifically for the nightstand but they are for the console in the same shape, so if you can live without the drawers, consider making mini consoles as your nightstands. (Now that I’ve committed that sentence into writing, I feel like I may be making a trip to Home Depot this weekend.) And if anyone needs a suggestion on incorporating mint into their daily life without the commitment of wall paint, I swear by Essie’s Mint Candy Apple, which has taken a place of honor next to OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark in my beauty cabinet.
