Copy Cat Chic Room Redo | Lake House Living Room

You guys - I have an issue. For the past year I've had a super deep, super comfy tufted antique sofa in my garage. The back is curved, the perfect little feet are on tiny little wheels, and even though it's clearly from a time when rationing was still a common topic, it looks like it came off the showroom floor. The only, tiny, tiny little problem is that the upholstery is a tweed the color of which I cannot begin to identify. It's like if brown and orange had a baby--somehow it is both of those colors and neither. Anyway, I know exactly what I want to do with it, but I also know that the price of reupholstering that beast is close to a second mortgage payment, so I've been putting it off until I'm 98% sure there isn't a new one I like better (100% seems unlikely).

Cut to today's room; Emily Henderson once again reminds us that few things make a statement the way a blue velvet upholstered sofa does (and also that my vision for an inky blue sofa is going to be even better than I can imagine). In the process of looking for a piece to match this one, I came to an important realization--there are more blue tufted velvet sofas than you can shake a stick at. I mean, my mouth was like watering over furniture, but whatever--my point is that there are so! many! choices! and it makes me really happy to know that beautiful, quality pieces are so accessible these days. It was a struggle to even pick one, so I wanted to share all my great finds with you (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). And overall, this is one of the easiest rooms I've ever shopped for, which I think says a lot considering we're dealing with a rattan hanging chair and a woven elephant table. Oh and if you'd like to test the waters before committing to your own hanging rattan swing, or just want to get the look, I've found some very affordable options (1, 2). And since this is a lake house, consider opting for outdoor furniture and rugs and be mindful of what fabrics will be easy to clean.

sofa $750
rug $250
lamp $60
print $35

TOTAL
$1,821

 Happy hunting!

  1. I know the black chair you found is cheaper, but the one in the picture is from ikea. I have two. They are soooo comfortable. And not much more.

  2. I seriously dislike that room design! Nothing looks like it belongs together. I don't like matchy/matchy but NOTHING goes with the other in this room. Velvet sofa, rattan swing(?), and a freaking elephant side table? Poor Emily must have been having a bad week when she designed this room. It's ugly. Sorry.

  4. I love it. I can't believe you can do all that under $2k! Great job.

  5. You're always right on, but in this case, why couldn't you just use the REAL chair that Emily used? The Storsele Chair from Ikea was $119 and is the chair that she used for this room. I know it's $20 more but is a far better chair and much more comfortable. Still under 2K and still the same store. I think that's a BIG miss.
