I find that the hardest part of designing a space is choosing what adorns the walls. Everyone has a weakness, art, most of the time, is mine. I find it easier when working with clients, but when it comes to my own home? It's so much more of a challenge. We lived in our last home for a year and I think I, maybe, hung one piece. Sad, I know.
When Art.com contacted me to see if I'd be open to reviewing one of their canvas prints on my blog, I was pretty quick in pulling the trigger. I've been using Art.com as one of my go-to sources for my room design clients for years. Their selection is unbeatable and so are their prices. So given the gift of being able to choose anything from their printed canvas line? AWE-some.
First I had to decide where I was going to put my new canvas print. Hint - That was the easy part. If you saw my previous post on the living room, you'll remember this period piece. The ocean scene it's depicting is nice, but it would have been a whole lot better if it was printed on canvas (or painted of course!). Also the frame and matting was pretty dingy looking. Time to go.
Now for the hard part, choosing what to get. It took me a while to narrow it down, I must admit. There is just so much to choose from! First I had to figure out what type of art I wanted.
I could choose abstract with bright, contrasty colors like this one.
Or maybe I should go more neutral.
September Fog Descending
Or I could even go landscapey (yes, I might have made that word up).
St. Catherine's Mountain, Rouen
This seascape was nice too....but not really me.
Garage de Bateaux a Saint-Mammes, 1885
Or a watercolor is always a breath of fresh air. This one was the Mr's favorite.
I even thought of maybe doing something a little more out-of-the-box (for me, anyways).
But in the end I decided I'd stick with the classics and go with a little Van Gogh.
This print just seemed like the most "me". And that's what picking art is all about. Deciding what you like and immersing yourself in it. Is it the most daring, exciting and stand-out piece? No, but there's plenty of room elsewhere in the house to do that. Here in the living room I wanted something subtle. I like it, it blends and it's something I won't get tired of looking at after other trends come and go.
As for the quality of the print? Couldn't be happier. Love that it's high quality canvas and finished, aka no need for a frame. It looks great just the way it is. It's a big piece and it came perfectly packaged without a hint of damage. So A+ Art.com, I can 100% recommend them now having firsthand experience with their product and process.
