Stay tuned for your regularly scheduled programs. We’re taking a little detour for the moment. I wanted to share my au naturale beauty routine. I know most of you are aware, that I’m very into organic and healthy-living. I’ve found a few good products that are not only eco-friendly, but also get the job done.
My list almost sounds like a grocery store shopping list, doesn’t it?
My list almost sounds like a grocery store shopping list, doesn’t it?
Now, Kiehl’s doesn’t always have the best reputation on the EWG Cosmetic Database, I know, but I really love this conditioner. It’s the perfect balance of moisturizing without being too heavy. I have fine, curly hair and lots of it and it tends to dry out easily. But since it’s fine, I can’t use anything too heavy. This conditioner is great and it has a really nice, very subtle scent.
This is amazing stuff, I use it on my eyes in the morning and at night. It’s the perfect natural solution for bags, dark circles, puffiness, you name it! And if I’m feeling particularly dry, I load it on the rest of my face as well.
I love this moisturizer, great rating on the cosmetic database and it’s nice and light. I usually like to use something with SPF, but I’ve recently heard that that’s probably not the best option for your skin. So I opt for a great non-nano zinc sunblock (see #6).
My, oh my, do I love this soap! It’s pure olive oil. I use it on my face, it makes a great make-up remover and I use it as a body wash in the shower. Even though it’s made of olive oil it doesn’t feel oily or leave an oily residue. It’s the perfect moisturizing cleanser. It doesn’t have much of a scent to it though, so if you really miss that, I’d go with the lavender olive oil bar.
This shampoo has a great rating on the cosmetic database and although I like it, I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite shampoo ever. I haven’t found the perfect shampoo yet, but this one is definitely good! I think it’s the scent I’m not that fond of. I like to switch shampoos regularly to avoid build-up anyways.
I’ve tried pretty much the whole gamut when it comes to skin and eco-friendly sunscreens. This one is my fave. It has a nice scent and it’s spreads on just a tad easier than my 2nd favorite, California Baby Sunscreen. I don’t use it everyday, only when I’m going to be in the sun longer than a half an hour, but it’s definitely my go to sunblock for me and Arden as well.
I don’t usually buy this on Amazon (and who knew that Amazon even sells TJ’s products?!). I get it in the store and it’s in with the cooking oils. It’s pure coconut oil and it’s the perfect skin moisturizer for me and Arden too. It’s a little unwieldy since it’s solid at room temperature, but it’s worth the hassle. I love the very subtle coconut scent and it makes my skin so nice and soft and happy 😉 BTW – for those of you who will inevitable ask, I’m not a fan of TJ’s Coconut Body Butter. Too many additives and scents for me in particular, but I know a lot of people are fans.

Great post. I would love to introduce you to Beautycounter – sf.beautycounter.com – these are safe and clean skincare and beauty that work! These products are only made with the most safe ingredients and never hide ingredients behind works like "fragrance" or "natural". There are 1300 chemical banned in the European nations for use in skin care and only 11 in the US. Beautycounter is a company that has decided not to use the 1300 banned ingredients and added another 200 to the never list. Take a look: https://vimeo.com/60431734. Thank you for sharing! I've "greened" almost everything in my life except some beauty products, and have been on the hunt for good reviews. I use EWG for everything I put on my son, and I'm not sure why I've waited so long to change my products, too. This couldn't have come at a better time! Looking forward to trying some of these!

Glad you found it useful! I know I searched high-low for recommendations too 🙂

This is awesome! I'm always looking for more natural beauty options, but they can be pricey, so without a recommendation, it's hard to know what to try. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Great post! I'm trying to live a greener life, but as Jillian said it's especially hard to transition with beauty products. The olive oil bar intrigues me and I'm definitely going to try it now! Thanks 🙂

just wanted to let you know i used to love using coconut oil! i found a pin about it on pinterest, read about it on blogs, etc. and after 6 months of use i started getting these pumps around my cheeks and jaw line. it wasn't a pimple as nothing it was never pussy but a white hard bump under the skin. anyway… went to the dermatologist because they weren't going away and low and behold it was a build up of coconut oil in my pores which created cysts. obviously that doesn't mean it will happen to everyone but i was told by the dr. to never put it on my face again and that certain oils and the old fashioned ponds cold cream contain ingredients known to cause this to happen. just wanted to give you a heads up. if you start to notice tiny bumps i would quit immediately! (i now have to be on medication for 60 days and then have very minor surgery to remove)

Eek! Really? I never use coconut oil on my face, but can it happen elsewhere? I use it as a body moisturizer, but now I'm a little scared :
