Now for January’s focus…Good Eats!
I want to eat, healthier, better and over all more delicious than I’ve been eating lately. I’ve been lazy and have resorted to frozen meals more often than not. So this year is going to be different!
In order to start off 2013 with the fresh start it deserves, I though why not do a juice cleanse?! It seemed like the perfect way to jumpstart your stomach into new habits. I’ve heard amazing things about juice cleanses: they clear your skin, they detox your body, they make you lose weight, even that they cure cancer (riiiight). So I figured what the heck, let’s give it a go!
I decided to keep it local and found an amazing company based in San Francisco called the Juice Shop.
I was sooo excited about it! The Mr. thought I was crazy for thinking about not eating for three whole days, but I knew that even though I wasn’t eating I’d probably be drinking more healthy than any of the food I was eating recently.

Day 1: Was pretty easy, no hunger until late afternoon where I suddenly craved all things CHEESE. Now, for those of you who know me personally, cheese is my absolute weakness. I’m pretty much vegan if only I could give up cheese. Gah. So it comes as no surprise that during the cleanse my body craved cheese like I was cutting off an addiction 😉 I also had a headache in the later evening, but it went away fast and never came back. The juices themselves were delish. I absolutely loooved the almond milk at the end of the day!
Day 2: I woke up with this amazing lightness and alertness. I’m am not a morning person, let me tell you. And I felt energized! And I had a super-human sense of smell. Seriously. It was even stronger than prego-nose. I also found myself looking forward to some of the juices, like the coconut water. I basically lived off of this stuff when I was pregnant. And of course the afore-mentioned almond drink. SO freakin’ yummy. I also really liked the #2: pineapple, pear and chia seeds. The chia seeds were kind of fun, almost like bubble tea! The not-so-sweet juices were just as delicious though, don’t get me wrong. It was nice how they alternated as well so you wouldn’t have to drink two sweets one right after another.
Day 3: I woke up and still felt good, not at all like I hadn’t eaten in 2 days. I actually kind of wanted to keep going and felt sad that it was over. I went out with the Mr and Arden to Train Town and out to lunch afterwards (pics on my Instagram) and I was a little afraid of how it would be going out to a restaurant and sitting there while everyone else ate in front of me. It wasn’t difficult at all! And the Mr even ordered pizza! My stomach could have cared less. I was shocked. Arden even drank half of my pineapple, pear and chia juice because she liked it so much.
So overall it was a great experience and one I think I would definitely do again! It felt so good to be drinking fresh, organic, delicious fruits and veggies all day. I would totally recommend it! Oh and for those of you who are interested I lost around 5lbs and who knows with my proposed healthier eating habits, maybe I’ll keep it off? Yay 2013!

Good for you…. it sounds like a positive experience. I'm wondering if it helped that they were prepared for you.?.?. I like the idea of "no mess". I'd love to do a cleanse.

It definitely helped, I don't think I would have been as enthused about doing all the juicing myself, that's for sure! 🙂

I just finished a 5 day possibly seven if I last though this weekend! I lost 6lbs and I too had a bad headache the first night but day two came and went like a breeze. I did the "seven day cleanse" with two coworkers and we made our own juices at work this was so helpful in not giving up. And so funny you mention the hightened sense of smell, the fella had a subway sandwich in the kitten and when he walked by me I got up and took a big whiff and said wow that smells amazing is that jalepenos? He said yes, you're crazy!! Haha I couldn't believe how strong my sense of smell was. Tomorrow would be day 6 and as much as French toast for breakfast sounds amazing ill be having fruit and a juice for lunch. Now, if I can keep these lbs off that would be great. I should say I didn't do it for the weight I'm small as is but I just realized how bloated my body was eating all that bad but so yummy food!

That would be a lot of fun doing it with a group! I'll have to do that next time 🙂 7 days! Impressive.
