can’t believe there’s only one week left until Halloween! How did that
happen? This weekend I figured I’d better get into gear and
decorate the house!

On
Sunday I headed over to Lowe’s to pick up some fun Halloween
decorations, but I didn’t buy the usual “Halloween” decor items π I’m a
member of Lowe’s Creative Ideas Creators & Influencers team (wow, that’s a mouthful), so I decided to get a little more DIYish with it.

If you’ve never checked out the Lowe’s Creative Ideas website
it’s chock-full of easy DIY projects, which are right down my alley. I
so don’t have the patience for DIY, but these were easy-peasy
AND way more cost effective. So naturally I was down for the challenge.

Here’s my modest stoop π I went with a spider infestation theme.
A picture of Mr. Crow standing guard by my homemade black widow infestation warning sign (somewhat inspired by the fabulous Brooklyn Limestone). Here’s a copy of the sign as requested!
Newly hatched spiders…
Our spider family of pumpkins. I created the black painted pumpkin by following the instructions from this project. So easy! And I actually used black spray paint instead of the one suggested. The other two I just used a black sharpie!
My inspiration for the creepy spiderweb curtains were from this project from the Lowe’s Creative Ideas website. For only $2 per panel (and a teensy bit of effort) it was WAY more reasonably priced than getting the same exact thing from a Halloween store for $7 a panel.
The Momma black widow herself (she drops down when there is any movement or sound!).
I was also going to do this spiderweb project on the right side of the stoop, but I figured it might not stand out
that well with the bougainvillaea vines growing there already.

Here’s the overall finished picture! Not too shabby for a days work, wouldn’t you say? π

We have recently moved, so sadly I'm not going to be decorating my house for Halloween this year. π Normally Halloween is my favorite holiday so it's disappointing not to get time to decorate.

Gosh darn, my yard is scary without decorations!

We made a murder scene with one pumpkin shooting the other pumpkin. Complete with pumpkin guts spread all over the porch!

I'm planning to decorate this week – this is my favorite time of year. I bought a new giant light up pumpkin for the front porch!
Paisley says
I'm going to hang up some bats under the eaves, and string a spider web over the windrow on our door. If I get around to it! π
Paisley says
I "liked" the Lowes Creative Ideas page on fb.
Lonnie says
We're setting up a graveyard.
rachel says
I basically bought about 10 pumpkins and created my own pumpkin patch. I'd like to get something for a little DIY – maybe some paint for my pumpkins? I really don't like carving that much.
You can see pics here: http://saltedchocolate.com/2011/10/19/halloween-decorating/
FYI – I liked the Facebook page. Good stuff!
Shevon says
Outside we have a skeleton in a tux holding a beer, a convict skeleton coming out of the ground, a mummy, pirate heads and a pirate using his hook to claw out of a coffin, and a witch being boiled in her own cauldron by a ghoul, etc.

My kids are older so we don't go all out anymore. Our carved pumpkins on the front porch and the cool plastic skull on the front table!

i decided a couple of years ago that anything i buy has to last for more than one holiday or season. so for halloween i use lots of pumpkins gourds leaves etc…they last through thanksgiving. then on to christmas/winter. cutting back on stuff…but still having fun.
Andrea says
I don't do a whole lot for Halloween…just a few pumpkins, a black wreath & orange lights. It's festive & cute π
Christi Scholl says
We decorate with pumpkins- orange and white- and gourds. I like the natural, yet fall look.
Morgan says
We're decorating with plenty of 'harvest' decorations! Plus a few cobwebs and spiders here and there :).
andyashleigh says
We always go all out for Halloween here with misc. themes because the kids LOVE it!! Our front has hay bales, 15 real pumpkins and misc. mums and scarecrows!! Such fun!

I tried colored corn but the squirrels ate it. emilylloyd@gmail.com
Anne says
I like to keep it natural– pumpkins and mums! I celebrate by having a pumpkin spiced latte!! π

Simple and fun, a grouping of pumpkins on our bench outside. Inside bookcase with e-e-k frames, vase of black twigs, pumpkins, oversize vase of candy corn, scary eye-chart message on our kitchen chalkboard. I called it 'Fast & Furious Halloween Decor.' Thanks!!
THE KNIGHTS says
We too did a spider infestation in the kitchen last weekend. We used fish line to suspend spiders, some descend when cupBoards open. We created spider hatchling sacks with starched gauze over a balloon (popped after dry), plastic spiders, fishing line and stringy hot glue.
THE KNIGHTS says
We also made a creepy apothecary tray with Mossy stones arranged with cheap clear vases. They were filled with spooky items (plastic eyeballs, costume teeth/Latex wolf ears/witch fingers, bugs, spiders, bats, and mice) and topped in burlap tied with twine. (love the lowes site! Thx for the reco!)
Sangeetha says
we have not really decorated our home we do have plenty of spiders to spare though, with all the rain they seem to thrive π
Tanja says
We have carved two pumpkins and are enlisting the help of our local spiders for some webs. π
