Grandin Road Amelia Ottoman

Good morning! How was the weekend for you guys? Let me tell you, it's been hot here again. I seriously CAN'T wait for Fall to really begin. The Mr & I had a productive weekend though, we sold our old living room rug on Craigslist and was finally able to replace it with one we actually like. The living room is getting closer...still working on the sofa though!

One thing the Mr really wants is an ottoman in the living room. I snoozed and lost this one I posted about, otherwise I'd be all over it now...bummer. So onwards we go...

While ottoman hunting, I stumbled onto this great deal for ya though!

Grand Road's Amelia Tufted Storage Ottoman = $249

Overstock's Reims Grey Storage Ottoman = $136.99

Fresh Coat Friday!

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

In the tradition of one of my favorite blogs, Life in the Fun Lane, I decided to give you folks a little preview of my new "office" :)

Since the old office will now be transitioning to the nursery, I needed to find another place in the house to work the Copy Cat Chic magic ;) I found this cheap desk for $75 at a local secondhand shop. I loved the traditional lines and the brass hardware & brackets give it personality. I decided a good coat of paint it would be perfect for my new office nook.
I also used a new tool to do the painting - Since I'm not so good at DIY, I figured I needed all the help I could get. I was given this paint sprayer from Home Right, the Pro 8.0 Extra Heavy-Duty Paint Sprayer to review, so I figured I'd put it to good use. Can I just tell you it's great? Compact and light and totally easy to use and it comes in it's own little container to stow away. Plus it has nice, even coverage. I already have plans to do a nightstand and high-chair next!

The desk before...

And the desk after!

Designer Sofas Direct

>> Thursday, September 16, 2010

OK, part II of the sofa hunt. I know you've seen these two sofa posts: Williams Sonoma Home's Presidio Sofa and the Annette Sofa. The company? Designer Sofas Direct aka Custom Sofa Design (their older website).

Well Jenny over at Little Green Notebook is in the process of ordering from them AND even better has a glowing review posted on her blog from a customer who has ordered two sofas from them. Check out the post here!

Be sure to check out their website Designer Sofas Direct to see pictures of some of their sofas, although it sounds like they are fully capable of recreating sofas as well! And if you end up ordering something...anything...give them my Copy Cat Chic referral code: 1560615 and you will get a free protection program on your order. I will get a credit for 5% off which will be soooo helpful with our small living room budget - most of the funds are focused on the nursery right now ;)

Here are some of the sofas I'm considering....

The Kentwood, of course! Jenny's looking into this one too!
Kentwood Sofa = $799

Hattiras Sofa = $699

Blaze Sofa = $799

The Hunt for the Perfect Sofa

OK, the Mister and I have been seriously needing a sofa lately. The one we have now is an ole' Ikea Ektorp that we got off of Craigslist for $60 - I won't mention why we had to get rid of the sofa before that, seriously, I'm not mentioning it ;)
So back to our current sofa...don't get me wrong it's a good sofa, comfortable & cheap, what's not to like. Maybe the old blue slipcover that came with it? We were planning to buy a fun slipcover from Bemz, but never got around to it.

image from Apartment Therapy
Fast-forward to today...thanks to the upcoming arrival of Baby B, we have to make some major changes to the Copy Cat Casita. The office will now become the nursery...and the new location of the office? Or shall I say the...desk: the living room. Sigh, I know, I know...the issues of living in a two bedroom bungalow. My office is now being down-sized from a whole room down to a small desk (more on the desk later!). Ah, the sacrifices we make for lil' ones.

Love the Spencer from Pottery Barn, but alas...no slipcover.
OK, so the problem at hand? I think we need a smaller sofa. I've always loved Ektorps because they are slipcovered and the slipcovers are soooo easy to replace/change at any time. But I feel like the time has come to buy a "grown-up" sofa...lol.

Love the stripe on this settee!

The requirements?
  1. Cheap price (but hopefully good quality!)
  2. Slipcovered or leather (the only way to keep a sofa clean)
  3. Light colored (which is most likely why we won't get leather...)
  4. Stylish - of course!
  5. Smaller apartment sized sofa
The hunt is on. Any suggestions? I'm thinking we might have to go custom!
